What does it take to be the best?

Marcus skiing stitch

When I was younger I had a ski coach who was different. I mean really different. Most coaches were Austrian or Swiss but this was an Aussie from Wollongong. He looked as comfortable on the beach as he did on the snow & his name was Jimbo (actually James but you know…).

[important]For those of you who don’t know, I skied for years in Australia & around the world for Australia (and myself).[/important]

Well Jimbo gave me one of the best books I have ever read & gave me a tonne of advice, both for on & off the slopes. In the cover of the book he wrote me a piece of advise that has stayed with me for ever.

“All it takes to be the best is being curious about how good you can be.”

When it comes to life I think this should apply to all the things I do (and probably you too). How?
When was the last time you did something; stood back and had a look at it and thought
“How much better can this get?” or “What would make this better?”

In web-design this can be done simply by removing things that are not needed. French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupery is reported to have said

“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”

Actually he said:

Il semble que la perfection soit atteinte non quand il n’y a plus rien à ajouter, mais quand il n’y a plus rien à retrancher.

I am currently going through this now & continue to do this regularly with all work I do. What about you? How curious are you?
